Rising Central Coast singer NEAV signs with Double Drummer
Emerging Central Coast-based artist NEAV has signed with boutique indie label Double Drummer.
The deal will see the 17-year-old singer-songwriter join the label for a string of new releases, joining the likes of Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird, Greta Stanley, Emma Swift and Lucy Parle on the all-Australian roster.
The new signing arrives off the back of NEAV’s independent debut single ‘Silence Song’, which was co-written and produced by Mario Tate (Tkay Maidza, Montaigne, Allday) and attracted rave reviews when entered in last month’s triple j Unearthed High competition.
A decorated songwriter, NEAV (real name Niamh Watson) has previously received awards from music mental health charity Listen Up and The Australian Songwriting Awards and was nominated for the APRA AMCOS/ASA Songwriter of the Year award, which led to her signing a publishing deal with ORIGIN Music last year.
A forthcoming debut EP, tentatively titled Elegy, will mark NEAV’s first release on the Double Drummer label.
Double Drummer’s Edward Prescott lauded Watson’s artistic talents and expressed his excitement towards her releasing new music via the boutique imprint.
“As a singer, NEAV’s talent is as natural and intuitive as you’ll find anywhere,” Prescott said.
“As a writer, it excites me that she is willing to experiment with genre and the element of surprise. I can’t wait to see where she goes.”
