K-Pop sensations NCT 127 enter ARIA Top 20 with album via Virgin Music

Universal Music Group’s new Virgin Music imprint is heralding the local success of global chart-toppers NCT 127.

The K-Pop group’s album STICKER debuted at #16 on the ARIA Albums Chart this week, making them the fourth K-Pop act to land a Top 20 debut in Australia.

The album is also the first release under a deal between the band’s label SM Entertainment and Virgin Music in Australia.

Both Timothy Janes, general manager of Virgin Music ANZ, and SM Entertainment’s Gavin Parry anticipated that K-Pop would soon achieve more milestones in Australia.

“Virgin Australia is excited to be part of the NCT 127 album launch via our global partnership with SM Entertainment and look forward to being involved with future K-Pop releases in the ANZ region,” Janes said.

Parry added: “NCT 127’s local chart result shows that the group, and more generally K-Pop, has become very relevant to the ANZ market and we can expect to see many more of SM Entertainment’s K-Pop artists impacting our charts in the near future.”

The album has hit #1 in South Korea, #3 in the US, #8 in Japan and #40 in the UK.

The group recently performed lead single ‘Sticker’ on The Late Late Show with James Corden.
