Hiatus Kaiyote’s Nai Palm announced as ambassador for Record Store Day 2021
Nai Palm, best known as the vocalist, guitarist and songwriter of neo-soul trailblazers Hiatus Kaiyote, has been announced as the second and final Australian ambassador for Record Store Day 2021.
The Melbourne-based artist will join previously announced ambassadors Hilltop Hoods to help promote the festivities for this year’s event, which will be held across two days on June 12 and July 17.
Nai Palm reflected on her relationship with record shops and vinyl culture, saying that “vinyl is forever” and “record stores go hand in hand with the local music scene”.
“Playing records is the sonic equivalent of nestling up to a fire. Warm and inviting. In an age of modern technology where you are inundated with choice and playlists there’s something sacred about putting on a record and listening start to finish. It comforts the soul.
“I love going to Northside to see a performance and see people trickle out into the street like confetti. Stopping traffic for the love of music.”
This year’s Record Store Day Lite will see the event return to physical locations around the country after being forced to hold virtual events in the wake of last year’s COVID outbreaks.
Saturday June 12 will be the bigger of the two days, with live music, limited pressings and special discounts being available for eager fans, while July 17 is touted as a ‘more chilled day’ and will largely centre around limited-edition releases.
