Music Victoria’s women leadership program, Cultivate, returns in 2020

Music Victoria has announced the return of Cultivate – their women’s leadership program – to take place for its second year in 2020.

The professional development program is back, supported by the Victorian Government, offering the selected group of participants opportunities to develop and enrich leadership and management skills to bring into their already established roles in the industry.

Following on from a successful debut year which featured the likes of Dallas Frasca (A Hitch To The Sticks Festival), Kate Duncan (The Push), Coco Eke (Bad Apples), Katie Besgrove (Look Out Kid), the format of Cultivate will remain the same next year.

“You can’t be what you can’t see.”

Mentors will be individually selected for each participant and will be coming to the series from a non-music industry background, to provide insight and different experiences. There will also be a series of masterclasses, training sessions and day-long women’s leadership conference that will see the results of the collaborations and sharing come to full fruition.

“Women leaders in the music industry are breaking down gender stereotypes and inspiring a new generation of leaders in Victoria’s contemporary music sector,” the Minister for Women, Gabrielle Williams has said. “It is fantastic to see this new generation of female leadership which is bound to inspire more – because you can’t be what you can’t see.”

Cultivate is seeking applications for their 2020 participant group; the program is open to anyone is female-identifying and is working within the Victorian contemporary music sector. The applications close at 5pm on Friday, October 18th.
