Local industry figures star as ‘The Usual Suspects’ in Music Victoria’s new membership drive

Melbourne trio Camp Cope and The Bamboos’ singer Kylie Auldist are among a stack of local music industry figures who have today banded together to kick off this year’s Music Victoria Membership Drive with a pretty entertaining clip titled ‘The Usual Suspects’ – those being the Victorian music-lovers who aren’t members of Music Victoria.

The video opens with an accusatory but tongue-in-cheek monlogue from Music Victoria CEO Patrick Donovan, who demands to know “why we have 12.5 million attendances at gigs in this state every damn year, and not every musician, small business and punter is a paid up member!”

The artists, who also include Big Scary’s Jo Syme, are incredulous as to why anyone involved in music in Australia wouldn’t already be a member. “We made our membership back in a heartbeat,” Camp Cope tell viewers. “Bands like us can save thousands.”

The video details the range of with appearances using an array of local music industry figures, from the $990 Platinum membership of Cherry Bar’s James Young, to the more affordable $35 investment made by someone like music writer Jake Cleland.

The benefits for signing up to Music Victoria are all detailed online, but include a host of discounts, as well as various opportunities for professional development offered by the organisation. If you sign up before the end of the month, you’ll also be in with a chance of winning a bunch of community-sourced prizes like tix to Groovin The Moo of an bunch of Melbourne gigs.

Check the video out below, and head over to the Music Victoria site to join or rejoin.
