Mushroom Group launches film distribution & production company Long Play Music Films
Mushroom Group has further diversified, launching a film distribution and production company known as Long Play Music Films.
Long Play Music Films will be focused on exhibiting the latest and greatest music documentaries, biopics and prestige concert films.
Mushroom Group’s Warren Costello, also the director and co-founder of Bloodlines Music, will head up the venture.
“I’m really pleased to see Long Play Music Films spring to life with our first theatrical release. What started out as a fun side project is now a reality as Long Play aspires to help tell unique and wonderful music stories from around the globe,” Costello said.
“We aim to offer screenings of new release music documentaries in cinema comfort and with enhanced sound so that audiences can experience these films as they were meant to be seen and heard.”
It will launch its inaugural 2021 season with the release of director Emer Reynolds’ film Phil Lynott: Songs For While I’m Away. The film will premiere at the Irish Film Festival, which takes place online from September 3 to 12. It will then have a limited release across Australia from September 29.
The film charts Thin Lizzy’s iconic front man through the words of Lynott himself. It focuses on some of his most iconic songs and delves into his life as a father, husband, friend, son and rock icon.
U2’s Adam Clayton, Metallica’s James Hetfield, Suzi Quatro, Midge Ure and Huey Lewis make appearances in the film. There’s also interviews with family members, friends and bandmates, as well as archival interviews with Lynott himself.
Phil Lynott: Songs For While I’m Away has already won Best Doc at the Doc’n Roll Film Festival.
