Triple j DIY Supergroup winner Moss signs with October Records
Brisbane producer and Wadawurrung man Moss has signed a record deal with Central Station imprint October Records off the back of his track ‘SABRE TEETH’.
Moss was recently crowned as the winner of triple j’s DIY Supergroup loop competition, with his entry ‘SABRE TEETH’ being produced in less than 48 hours.
The song is a trap-inflected EDM cut pieced together with samples from the likes of Touch Sensitive, San Cisco, Vallis Alps and Alison Wonderland.
‘Sabre Teeth’ also includes a new feature verse from Canberra hip-hop upstart Genesis Owusu, who joined the track after being moved by the way Moss sampled one of his unreleased verses on the original DIY Supergroup version.
“I recorded my vocals for the track at an extremely emotive and tumultuous time. Those words had a lot of rage and despair soaked through them,” Owusu said.
“While the original track never saw the light of day, Moss managed to take those vocals and put an energy behind them that captured the exact same ferocity, and even adding another layer beyond it by adding elements of his own Indigenous heritage. I’m more than happy my words ended up taking this form in Moss’ track.”
Archie Magliulo of October Records said he was super excited to welcome the multi-talented moss to October Records.
“Beyond humbled by the blanket support from all the DIY Supergroup contributors to allow us to release Moss’ winning entry ahead of all the amazing music we have planned next,” he added.
Moss also shared his elation at being signed to the October Records roster.
“Music to be listened to after dark resonates a lot with my records,” he said. “I’ve been a big fan of October Records and a lot of their artists for some time now. To be alongside them moving forward is something I’m so so excited for and am looking forward to this partnership and our next few releases together.”
