Million Dollar Riff launches Worldwide Songwriter’s Competition

Million Dollar Riff (MDR) is challenging the status quo for songwriters,kickingoff itsworldwide competition next week.Entryopens1-31Augustat milliondollarriff.com/competitions

The Australian-made,independent platformis itagateway for songwriter’s – todeveloptheir craft,test songs (globally), connect with peers and industry opportunities – and itbringsmusic enthusiaststogether, to liberate independent music and place value on what they’re offering each other. You can beanyage, origin, nationality, genre and in any situation (emerging,professional, published orunpublished).

Entry songs arerendered anonymous,as45 second samplesfor the public to vote on. This creates a level playing fieldand puts music enthusiasts in the judge’s seat, to determine what they want to hear, purely bywhat theyhear.

It’sself-sustained by thecommunity, with each entry fundingthewinningprize pool of $10,000 AUD minimum.Entry fees are$88 AUD per song – $50 funds the prize andtheremaining$38 funds theoperation(covering any TAX, GST, permits andtech).

All entrants and voters receive the basiccompetition stats and getlinked tothe songwriter’s they votefor. The top tenfinalistswill have their full length songsrevealed, for a final round of votingdeciding thewinner.

“Competitions have amajorinfluence overculture. We’d like to seewhat thiscan do, for thesongwriter’s benefit”, says MDR’s Founder Damian McSweeney.

“The music industry’s seenchallenges, withrevenue problems, technology and theyears of free music. We’ve beenspectators of it, and it’s made ussceptical to some degree.

MDR’s been a grassroots effort so far. We won’t be for everybodybut we’re filling a gap for theindependent community, looking forways todefine the environmentoutside of commercial catalogue.

We plan toimprove and grow the services available, which iswhywe’re piloting the competition, to gaugethenext steps forward.Above all, we want to liberate music creators so they canenjoy what they’re doing.
