Milk! Records holding livestream on music labels this week

Milk! Records and Amped Up are continuing their series of online workshops aimed at young music creators and music fans this Thursday.

The first livestream and Q&A was held last month, discussing all things branding and visual identity. Now the second in the series will tell viewers everything they need to know about music labels.

Ella Jefferies of Bonsai Records and Tom Larnach-Jones, former Milk! label manager, are the guests of the livestream, offering their expertise on running a label.

Larnach-Jones has a wealth of experience with Australian labels, having started at Shock Records in the 90s. He co-founded ARIA award-winning label Trifekta Records and until recently was Milk!’s label manager.

He’s also been the booker for iconic Melbourne venues such as The Gasometer, The Croxton, and Revolver Upstairs, and has also managed local artists Art of Fighting and June Jones. He currently works with both international and local labels at Sound Merch.

Jefferies is the founder of Bonsai Records, an inclusive, community-based record label that celebrates DIY artists.   Established back in 2019, the label aims to create better opportunities for rising musicians.

Bonsai Records is based on a farm on Wathaurong country in Wallington, with a sister recording studio and an in-house screen printing press. Their current artists include Pollyman, Bones and Jones, and Sirens.

Amped Up proudly support local young creators and music fans through inclusive all-ages gigs and digital content. They’ve worked with bands such as Jeff Rosenstock, Northlane, Ocean Grove, and In Hearts Wake.

Milk! Records is an independent Melbourne record label. Founded by Jen Cloher and Courtney Barnett in 2012, they represent artists such as Liz Stringer, Hand Habits, and Hachiku.

The ‘Let’s Talk About Labels’ livestream takes place on Thursday, November 18th, at 5:30pm AEDT. You can find further details and RSVP for the event here.
