Miley Cyrus inks new deal with Columbia Records

As per Billboard, Miley Cyrus is now officially backed by a new record label, with none other than Columbia Records.

Billboard further reports that a source close to Cyrus’ move to Columbia Records has stated that Columbia’s chairman and CEO, Ron Perry “personally courted Cyrus”. According to the source, the pair have had a longstanding relationship, not only with Cyrus but also her manager, her mother and also her attorney.

Cyrus was previously signed to a different Sony Music record label – RCA Records.

The artist had been signed with RCA Records since 2013 and had created four albums within that contract. Those include her Bangerz album, which brought us iconic singles like ‘Wrecking Ball’ and ‘We Can’t Stop’.

Under RCA she also released Younger Now, She Is Coming and most recently, Plastic Hearts.

As per Billboard, Cyrus has certainly “genre-hopped” quite notably, with her latest Plastic Hearts signifying her move towards rock once again.

Cyrus said on the release of the album, “If you’re reading this… know that I f–king love and appreciate you on the deepest level. I began this album over 2 years ago. Thought I had it all figured out. Not just the record with its songs and sounds but my whole f–king life. But no one checks an ego like life itself.”

She continued, “Just when I thought the body of work was finished… it was ALL erased. Including most of the musics relevance. Because EVERYTHING had changed.”

Plastic Hearts which features collaborations with Billy Idol, Joan Jett, Stevie Nicks and more debuted at the number one spot on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart and also marked the milestone of the artists’ first entry in the category.

Topping the chart saw Cyrus in some very good company, being the fourth woman last year to score a number one on the chart.
