Rolling Stone Australia mini-magazine set to honour Michael Gudinski
As countless friends, colleagues, and supporters make their way to Melbourne today for a state funeral honouring his life and legacy, Rolling Stone Australia has announced that their upcoming June issue will feature a special mini-magazine tribute to the late industry icon Michael Gudinski.
The special mini-magazine will feature a look back at the life and the global footprint left behind by Gudinski, and will feature an in-depth look at the most successful albums on the Mushroom label, in addition to tributes from close friends and colleagues Michael Chugg, Jane Gazzo, Michael Harrison, and many more.
Gudinski passed away unexpectedly earlier this month at the age of 68. A revolutionary figure of the Australian music industry, his untimely passing sparked an outpouring of grief from the likes of local icons such as Kylie Minogue and Jimmy Barnes, and international heavyweights such as Ed Sheeran and Bruce Springsteen.
In a tribute to Gudinski, journalist Lars Brandle described his impact on the world of music by noting that, “no single person did more for building the music industry in Australia or boosting the profiles of homegrown artists both here and abroad.”
“Put simply, Gudinski was the face of Australian music for the rest of the world,” Brandle continued. “And if you asked an Australian to name any one music industry executive, the answer would always be ‘Michael Gudinski.'”
In recent decades, Gudinski had also received numerous industry accolades, including a Special Achievement ARIA Award, and his recognition as an ARIA Industry Icon in 2013. In 1998, Gudinski received the Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services to Australian Music at the APRA Music Awards, and in 2006, was made a Member of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Over the last year, Gudinski had been instrumental in his support of the Australian live music scene, teaming up with the likes of the Victorian government and Visit Victoria to announce the likes of the State of Music television program, the Sounds Better Together concert series, and last year’s Music From the Home Front special, which topped the ARIA charts upon being given a physical release.
While the most recent issue of Rolling Stone Australia was released just last week, the next edition will arrive in June. For more information regarding how to subscribe to Rolling Stone Australia and to ensure you get a copy of this special mini-magazine, be sure to click on the link below.
