Melodie Wins ‘Product of the Year’ at Las Vegas Trade Show

Sydney-based music licensing platform Melodie leaves Las Vegas a winner, by taking out product of the year at the 2024 NAB Show.

The media and broadcast trade fair is one of the largest of its kind, attracting 1,300 exhibitors from 41 countries and roughly 61,000 participants.

With its award, Melodie’s licensing technology is identified as among the “most significant and promising” new products and technologies being exhibited at the most recent show, running from April 13-17.

Melodie claims the audio production, processing and networking trophy, one of 19 categories announced during the ceremony at the Las Vegas Convention Center, selected by a panel of industry experts.

“These winners represent the most cutting-edge advancements and technologies shaping the future of content creation, distribution and monetization,” said Eric Trabb, senior vice president and chief customer success officer at NAB Global Connections and Events.

“They are driving the industry forward, and we are excited to recognize them as they break through with a remarkable range of solutions that push the boundaries of what’s possible in our industry.”

Now in its sixth year, Melodie has facilitated 20 million minutes of its artists music broadcast on Australian free-to-air television and VOD platforms in shows like Australian Ninja Warrior, Four Corners, Deadly Women, The Amazing Race and Territory Cops.

In 2023, Melodie  raised an additional $1 million, funds that would enable the music licensing platform to continue on its international expansion.

That lump of money is in addition to the $600,000 secured in September 2021, a sum that helped Melodie expand its API licensing revenue base, bringing in new composers and music tracks, and placing its catalogue in film & TV productions, according to a statement.

“Australia is brimming with innovators in the creative technology sector. This award is a reminder that the world is paying attention and buying the product,” says Melodie founder Evan Buist in a statement.

“You’ve heard of Canva and Atlassian, and now you’ve heard of Melodie: an Australian-owned music company representing a huge roster of Australian composers, operating in a less visible but increasingly lucrative corner of the global entertainment industry. We’re playing our part, pushing Australia closer to becoming a net exporter of music, and helping to deliver benefits and grow the ecosystem and sustainability of Australian creative industries.”
