Melbourne’s Amyl And The Sniffers land Rough Trade deal
Melbourne band Amyl And The Sniffers have landed a rest-of-the-world deal with Britain’s Rough Trade Records.
They’re already with Flightless for Australia and New Zealand, and ATO for North America.
They said: “It’s sick to sign with Rough Trade, the label has a great history.
“Plus, hopefully, we’ll get first pressings of Sleafords Mods‘ records.”
The band has made a quick rise this year in the Northern hemisphere.
Their self-titled debut album was released in the UK and Europe in May through Damaged Goods Records to coincide with their first tour there.
They also embarked on their first North American tour in June with their label bosses King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard.
As reported in Industrial Strength earlier this week, their mix of punk and Aussie pub-rock has struck the right chord: they made the nominations list for UK magazine Q’s October 17 Q Awards in London.
Amyl And The Sniffers are up for breakthrough act against Goat Girl, Tom Grennan, The Magic Gang, Idles, Bugzy Malone, Nakhane, Novelist, Nadine Shah, Jorja Smith and Rejjie Snow.
The Sniffers play a club date in London next week.
Amy Taylor (vocals), Bryce Wilson (drums) and Dec Martens (guitar) shared a house together, wrote some songs in four hours and recorded and uploaded their first EP Giddy Up in 12 hours.
Taylor’s stage presence was dynamic in delivering their kind of music.
She once said, “Growing up around my parents, who grew up in the Western suburbs of Sydney, that’s what I’ve been around – muscle cars, shit punk music, that kind of stuff.”
Joined by bassist Gus Romer, 2017 proved to explode for them, releasing their second EP Big Attraction in February, hailed as one of the buzz bands at BIGSOUND and invited to open for Cosmic Psychos in the spring,’’
By this year they had headlined an Australian tour and saw it sell out.
