Maroon 5 dethrone Lizzo to claim first Aussie airplay #1 in seven years
Prolific US hitmakers Maroon 5 have added another #1 airplay title to their swathe of top-charting singles in Australia.
After 12 weeks on the TMN Hot 100 Airplay Chart powered by Radio Monitor – and four weeks sitting in second spot – ‘Memories’ dethrones Lizzo & Ariana Grande’s ‘Good As Hell’ this week.
Maroon 5 have excellent pedigree at Australian radio, and ‘Memories’ becomes their seventh single to top the chart the chart since 2004’s ‘She Will Be Loved’ first went #1.
It’s their #1 single in seven years, with ‘Sunday Morning’, ‘Makes Me Wonder’, ‘Moves Like Jagger’ ft. Christina Aguilera, ‘Payphone’ ft. Wiz Khalifa and ‘One More Night’ their other hits to reach the summit.
The Top 5 undergoes a reshuffle this week, with Ride It’s ‘Regard’ (#3) and ‘Never Seen The Rain’ by Tones And I (#4) reaching new peaks.
The highest debut of the week goes to the new release by former One Directioner Harry Styles, who lands at #33 on the Hot 100 with ‘Adore You’.
Amy Shark has teamed up with US duo The Chainsmokers for new cut ‘The Reaper’, debuting at #38, while The Weekend also lands his new track ‘Heartless’ in the Top 50.
Meanwhile, Mariah Carey continues her assault on pre-Christmas radio charts. ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ climbs to #51 this week, up 49 frames.
Following the tragic passing of Roxette singer Marie Fredriksson this week, the band’s 1988 classic ‘The Look’ rebounds onto the Hot 100 at #68.
