Markell Casey joins Sony Music Australia as senior director of A&R
Sony Music Australia has announced that Markell Casey will join the company as senior director of A&R from June 8.
Casey will join Sony’s Sydney office and will be responsible for signing and developing his own artist roster as well as furthering the careers of Sony Music Australia artists.
Casey has spent the past five years as senior creative director for Pulse Music Group in Los Angeles, where he signed and worked alongside acts like James Blake, Whethan, Jai Wolf and YEBBA.
Prior to his appointment with Pulse, Casey worked as A&R Manager for Virgin Records in London, signing MNEK, CHVRCHES, Kali Uchis and Circa Waves.
Sony Music Australia chairman and CEO Denis Handlin welcomed Casey’s appointment, noting his impressive track record of signing successful acts.
“Markell comes to Australia with a wealth of experience and international relationships, and we look forward to the contribution that Markell will make to our local artists,” he said.
Casey also expressed his excitement at the prospect of working alongside Sony’s roster of Australian artists.
“I am excited to join the Sony Music Australia team as this is an exciting new chapter in my life both professionally and personally, and I am looking forward to working with the team,” Casey said.
“I have always followed Australian artists and music closely, and it is now an honour to work with some of the best artists in the industry with the goal of growing their careers at home and overseas.”
Casey will report to Pat Handlin, vice president of A&R across ANZ.
