Mark Ronson takes aim at Perth venue and local promoter
Mark Ronson has called out a local promoter and venue which falsely advertised and sold tickets for a DJ set onSaturday night. The promoter sold ticket and hospitality packages for $1,100.
Ronson, who headlined Splendour in the Grass in Byron Bay on Friday night, took aim at Perth venue Matisse Beach Club and vodka brand/event sponsor Cîroc, which Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs became brand ambassador for in 2007.
“HEY @CIROC! SHADY PROMOTERS USING YOUR BRAND TO ADVERTISE FAKE GIGS. don't make me tell @iamdiddy,” he tweeted.
The event sold out of its $900 'Indoor Booth' and $1100 'Poolside Cabana' packages.General Admission tickets were soldfor between $39 and$49.50 per person via Ticketbooth.com.au.
Interestingly, the yet-to-be-named promoter hasn’t appeared on any promotional material for Winter Funk Fest. Matisse posted an apology to the Facebook event page and its own account at 6:58pm on Saturday, referring to the promoter as a “third party booking agent.”
Read the venue’s full statement below:
Matisse would like to formally and sincerely apologise to all those affected by the events that occurred yesterday in relation to our Winter Funk Fest.
All ticket and package holders will receive a full refund, and this has been actioned by our ticketing agent for processing. All ticket holders have been contacted via email.
Matisse are angered by the position our customers and ourselves have been put in by the third party booking agent and promoter who sold us this appearance.
We can assure you that as soon as we became aware of the situation we immediately contacted all ticket holders prior to the event via email.
We are fully investigating the matter and will take appropriate action based on our findings. For this reason we are unable to comment further.
Again we would like to apologise to our customers, Mark Ronson and his management, and our event sponsors for the inconvenience caused.
According to The West Australian,Matisse said “Ronson’s promoter” had informed the venue Ronson wouldn't be performingthe event “due to unforeseen logistical issues getting back to Perth from Byron Bay”.
The set’s timing should have been an initial red flag for the seemingly unaware venue. Following his sideshow in Perth on Wednesday night, Ronson performed his Splendour headline showin Byron on Friday and while his next show isn’t until tomorrow night in Sydney, the promoter advertised thathe would return to Perth on Saturday for a DJ set.
The 39-year-old has offered anyone with existing tickets to Winter Funk Fest tickets to his next, yet-to-be-scheduled show in Perth.
TMN has reached out to both Matisse andCîroc for comment.
