Marcia Hines set as Music: Count Us In Music Mentor for 2015

Music: Count Us In (MCUI), Australia’s largest school music participation program is thrilled to announce the legendary Marcia Hines as the music mentor for 2015. MCUI is Australia’s largest schoolmusicadvocacyinitiativegrowingsteadilyinreachandimpactsince2007. Lastyear,MCUI saw 2000 schools and over half a million students take part in the program providing students and teachers with the opportunity to develop their music skills and simultaneously perform with schools around the country.
With an impressive career spanning four decades, Marcia Hines is an inspirational figure to have as MCUI’s 2015 music mentor. She is the first Australian female artist to have seven consecutive Top 20 album releases, was inducted into the Aria Hall of Fame in 2007, a judge on Australian Idol 2003- 2009 and received an AM in the Australia Day Honours in 2009. Marcia has recently released her latest album titled Amazing, and is currently touring in VELVET, an award winning show, a high energy fusion of music, circus and theatre, opening at the Sydney Opera House in October 2015.
On being MCUI’s 2015 mentor Marcia says, “Here’s to sharing the gift of music and creating something very special. I look forward to our journey together.”
MCUI 2015 kicks off with the song writing workshop on April 1st. The finalists have been selected from across the country and MCUI is delighted to have Frank Dixon and Lynn Ng from Victoria, Larissa Lock from South Australia and Tylah Winyard from Queensland collaborate with our music professionals to create this year’s MCUI song. The song will then be recorded and distributed to participating schools across the country. During the workshop the students will receive expert guidance from award-winning producer John Foreman, the program’s ambassador, song writing specialist Tom Diesel and the program’s music mentor, Marcia Hines.
All of MCUI’s participants will come together on Celebration Day, held on the 29th of October where they will simultaneously perform their school’s arrangement of the MCUI song. The Celebration Day will involve live streaming of events across the country, a collective of Sydney school students performing at the Sydney event and various guest appearances and special events.
Music: Count Us In is managed by Music Australia, the peak service body for the Australian music industry. MCUI is supported by funding from the Australian Government. It meets a priority recommendation of the National Review of School Music Education (2005) to raise the status of music in Australian schools.
