Live Review: Jonathan Boulet at GoodGod
According to Jonathan Boulet’s label, Modular, he is heading off to Berlin to write and record a fresh pile of sounds. What better way to send him off than a celebration at GoodGod?
For those who have been to GoodGod, you know that it really can be a sweatbox. This sold out Jonathan Boulet “Last Show For A While” was no exception. It was to be Boulet’s last show before heading off to Berlin for an undetermined amount of time and as such required a raffle, which was drawn early before the mighty bearded man went on to kick off the set.
Black Smokehat kicked things off, which were followed by two of Boulet’s most popular songs, This Song Is Called Ragged andCommunity Service Announcement. Aside from his breakthrough single, Community Service Announcement, the set was very sophomore album heavy (presumably because his second album was written with the band he performs with) but that didn’t seem to be a problem for the audience, who were moving about with hands in the air.
In amongst punters jumping on the stage and being told to get off in a particularly forward manner, the set closed out with You’re An Animaland Trounce amongst a massive singalong.
Feels like a few people in Sydney are certainly going to miss having Jonathan Boulet around.
