Life Is Noise has cut all ties with concert promoter David Cutbush following reports of sexual misconduct towards multiple women.
Jack Midalia, director of Life Is Noise, posted a statement to Facebook today apologising for the behaviour of his co-owner, and stating that Cutbush will no longer be associated with Life Is Noise.
The action taken is the first instance of someone from the industry being called out for this type of behaviour on social mediain Australia.
“I’d like to respond to recent reports of unacceptable behaviour towards women by company Director, Dave Cutbush,” the statement said.
“I take these reports seriously, and deeply apologise for not providing the safe space that the women in our industry deserve. Dave will no longer have any involvement or association with Life is Noise, effective immediately.”
When asked whether Cutbush will continue to hold any stake or ownership in Life Is Noise, Midalia toldTMN,“No, he will not.”
Accusations against Cutbush emerged overnight on social media followinga post announcing a boycott of Life Is Noise gigs.
Screenshots of Cutbush soliciting a 16-year old girl were posted, as wasanother story accusing him of acting innapropriately towards a different high school-aged girl.
Several bands and venues have also condemned Cutbush’s alleged actions.
“It has come to our attention that Australian promoter Dave Cutbush of Life is Noise has been up to some very bad shit, particularly in regard to his treatment of female members of the scene,”posted Siberian Hell Hounds.
“This kind of behavior has no acceptable place or time and it is shameful to see it coming from someone with such a well-respected and influential place in the Australian music scene.
“We played one Life is Noise show about a year ago and will now be donating the $200 payment we received for this to a women’s shelter, if anyone has a suggestion for a place that could use it the most please reply in the comments.”
Brisbane venue Crowbar has alsoannounced its disassociation with Cutbush. “After recent events and allegations, it is with much disappointment that we, Crowbar Brisbane and our entities, announce our disassociation with the promoter and director Dave Cutbush of ‘Life Is Noise’,” the venue said.
“It is against our personal, business and moral beliefs for any woman to be mistreated or taken advantage of in any way at all, especially in this great scene we are so lucky to be a part of.
“This needs to be a safe and respectful place for all of us and, as always, we will endeavour to ensure Crowbar, its bands, staff and promoters provide a space that is welcoming, comfortable and safe for all.”
