Laneway announce Mac DeMarco and Anderson .Paak for 2018, tease literally every other artist ever
St Jerome’s Laneway Festival this morning announced the venues and dates for the 2018 instalment of Australia’s biggest touring festival, as well as the first two artists on the lineup.
Singer-songwriter-slacker hero Mac DeMarco – whose mum Agnes won hearts as the 2015 festival’s emcee – returns with three more albums’ worth of songs, the most recent being this year’sThis Old Dog.
And Anderson .Paak will return for his third run of Aussie sets, with his spectacular backing band The Free Nationals in tow.
The festival’s branding has been refreshed, withits long-runningabstract, pastel look replaced witha vibrant new neon-sunset aesthetic– includinga condensed Garamond font that looks suspiciously like the old Apple “Think Different.” typeface.
Theyalso releaseda letter-strewnteaserthat was already spawning wild mass guessing and plentyof memesthis morning.
But as Dom O’Connor, who’s on the Laneway programming team, pointed out this morning, there are a few too many possibilitiesfor the teaser to really offer anything helpful.
Very excited for people to start realising you can spell literally any artist name out of the letters in the Laneway teaser
