Lady Gaga’s ‘A Star Is Born’ is a Box Office and Billboard hit

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s affecting love story remake A Star Is Born is a global box office hit.

The film is holding on in a similar fashion to blockbusters like Gone Girl and The Martian having just made $201.1 million at the global box office.

Over on the Billboard chart in the US, the A Star Is Born soundtrack has just notched its second week at #1. Featuring tracks like ‘Shallow’ and ‘Maybe It’s Time’, the soundtrack earned 143,000 equivalent album units last week, down 38% from the week prior.

The #1 is Lady Gaga‘s second album to take two weeks in the top spot, following in the footsteps of 2011’s Born This Way. It also marks her fifth #1, with Gaga’s other three LPs all topping the Billboard chart for a week.

Here in Australia, A Star Is Born sits at #3 on the ARIA chart, behind Eminem’s Kamikaze and Paul Kelly‘s Nature, Kelly second #1 for the year.

As Rolling Stone points out, A Star Is Born was helped to #1 in the US for a second week by the fact that there were no major new releases to compete with.

Migos rapper Quavo’s solo album Quavo Huncho hit #2 but the LP wasn’t technically ‘new’ since it debuted at #66 in an abbreviated sales week on the last Billboard 200 and had an extra full week to rack up sales.
