Kyle and Jackie O leaving 2Day FM
Popular 2Day FM breakfast radio hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O will be leaving the station after over a decade together on air, they announced today.
Breaking the news on air this morning, Jackie O said the decision was not an easy one, but was mutual.
“I think we’ve always been adamant that we would leave 2Day FM at a time of our choosing,” she told listeners.
“I think we’ve achieved everything we could possibly achieve at 2Day FM and it’s time for us to start a new chapter in our lives.”
Rumours had been circling that representatives for Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O (real name Jacqueline Henderson) had been locked in heated debate the past few months with SCA over pay increases. But Sandilands put this rumour to bed this morning, saying the pair’s decision to leave was an amicable one.
The Kyle and Jackie O Show has been a top rated FM show for years and just this year the duo was named “best on-air team” in the Australian Commercial Radio Awards (ACRAs).
The show has also garnered its fair share of controversy in recent years, largely related to Sandilands’ outspoken manner and a series of derogatory comments.
In a statement issued by the broadcaster, Southern Cross Austereo Head of Content Craig Bruce said: “We’re proud that Kyle and Jackie have not only given Sydney radio audiences the most entertaining radio show ever, they have also raised millions of dollars for charities and those in need whilst also enthralling listeners with the world’s hottest music artists and exclusive interviews with famous Hollywood celebrities.
“They have certainly lived up to their show mantra ‘Breakfast with the Stars’! None of which could have happened without the strong and dedicated team working hard behind the scenes”.
The duo’s final show on air is scheduled from 6am on Friday November 29.
Sandilands has promised listeners a month of celebrations of things he’s done and said on air.
