Kyle & Jackie O fight for social networks, Triple M launch Classic Rock Digital, ABC discover how pay data leaked

Kyle & Jackie O fight for social networks

It hasn’t even been confirmed that the duo are going to pop up at another network but the fight for their right to take their social networks with them is apparently happening in the background.

The Daily Telegraph reported on the weekend that there is some back-and-forth over Facebook and their 194,000+ followers. While it looks as if the duo are able to use ’Kyle & Jackie O’ on-air somewhere else due to a previous arrangement, the social aspect is the challenging one.

While the Daily Tele piece talks specifically about Facebook, the same theory must surely apply to their other social networks.

ABC discover how pay data was leaked

Two days after The Australian published sensitive pay information about staff at the ABC, the network’s managing director Mark Scott has told staff how the leak occurred.

Although it is unclear how the newspaper accessed the data, it is now known that a freedom of information request made from the office of the Liberal SA state minister, Robert Brokenshire (now a Family First MP), was how the figures came to leave the ABC.

The request was for simple information about staff numbers in certain regional areas and at ABC headquarters in Sydney between 2007 and 2012.

However, embedded underneath a simple one page spreadsheet were the pay figures.

The changing media revenue landscape

The two charts in this article are from PwC and were taken from the Nine Entertainment prospectus.

They outline the Australian media ad spend and how it has changed over the past decade (2003 – 2012), plus a forecast of US media revenue (2012 vs 2017).

Some headlines …..

–       In the last 10 years, radio revenue has increased in Australia but has slipped slightly over 2011-2012

–       In the US, the forecast is for radio revenue to grow from US$16.1 billion in 2012 to US$17.3 billion in 2017, a slight increase over the coming years

–       The main growth in the US, not surprisingly, is forecast to be Internet advertising (which could nearly double).

Why Natasha Exelby should be on Breakfast radio
Brad March

Natasha Exelby, who was surprisingly axed from the TEN breakfast show Wake Up, should be on breakfast radio. And it wouldn’t surprise me if she appears on radio somewhere in the future.

It’s no wonder Adam Boland hired her for the show to begin with. Natasha, or ’Tash’, has the intelligence of WSFM radio host Amanda Keller, the directness of 2Day FM’s Kyle Sandilands and the spunk of recording artist Pink.

Most importantly she’s got something to say.

2Day FM lodge an appeal over ACMA ruling

Two weeks after the Federal Court ruled in favour of the ACMA, allowing the media watchdog to now conclude its investigation into 2Day FM and its handling of the royal prank call, SCA have now lodged an appeal seeking to have the decision overturned.

In the station’s Notice Of Appeal, lodged on November 19, it will now argue that Justice Edmonds erred in concluding the communications watchdog had the power under the Media Authority Act, to find that a broadcaster had committed a criminal offence. It will claim that such a judgment was unconstitutional.
