Koi Child dominate 23rd annual WAMAwards
Jazz-rap collective Koi Child dominated last night’s sold out WAMAwards in Perth, taking home four wins out of their five nominations.
The seven-piece group from Fremantle took home awards for Most Popular Act, Most Popular Music Video, Best Album and Best Urban Act.
Also taking home multiple awards last night were Abbe May (Best Single and Best Female Vocalist), Daniel Susnjar Afro-Peruvian Jazz Group (Best Jazz Act and Best Drummer/Percussionist) and POW Negro (Most Popular New and Most Popular Live Act), all with two awards each.
Taking place at Perth’s new live music and multi-purpose venue, Gate One Theatre at the Claremont Showgrounds, the 23rd annual WAMAwards kicked WAMFest’s extensive 2016 program.
Taking place over four days until 6 November, the popular annual event will showcase local talent with around 150 acts performing across more than 20 venues throughout Perth, Fremantle and surrounding suburbs.
West Australia Music (WAM) is also hosting the newly named WA Music Conference (WAMCon) as part of this year’s WAMFest event. Held over two days (4 to 5 November), the conference is aimed at equipping and networking industry professionals, managers, bookers, students and music fans alike.
