Kendrick Lamar Crowned on Apple Music’s 2024 Year-End Chart

Apple Music’s year-end chart is dominated by U.S. artists – specifically, Kendrick Lamar.

The hip-hop superstar leads the streaming giant’s 2024 Year-End Chart with “Not Like Us,” the fiery rap cut which emerged from the Compton rapper’s ugly beef with Drake.

“Not Like Us” is Lamar’s biggest hit to-date on Apple Music, topping a leaderboard ahead of Benson Boone’s ballad “Beautiful Things” and Sabrina Carpenter’s catchy pop hit “Espresso,” respectively.

Shaboozey’s breakthrough country number “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” enters at No. 4, while Taylor Swift’s 2019 Lover cut “Cruel Summer” completes the top 5.

Lamar’s latest title is announced today, December 4th, as the west coast artist reigns over the ARIA Chart with his surprise release album, GNX.

American artists dominate the Apple Music top 50. The exceptions include Canadian artists Tate McRae (“greedy” at No. 7), Hozier (“Too Sweet” at No. 17) and Drake (“Rich Baby Daddy” featuring Sexyy Red & SZA at No. 26 and “Best I Ever Had” at No. 42) and a slew of Japanese acts: Creepy Nuts, Omoinotake, YOASOBI and Tuki.

For Australian streamers, no song was played on Apple Music as frequently in 2024 as Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things.”

The U.S. singer and songwriter’s breakthrough hit was the most Shazammed song globally this year, a list that has an Australian flavour.

The NSW-raised DJ and producer (real name: Cyril Riley) lands two songs in the Top Shazams list, with Disturbed’s “The Sound of Silence (CYRIL Remix)” at No. 4 and “Stumblin’ In” at No. 6.

While Aussies are locked out of the Apple Music Top 50 Global Songs Chart, it’s a particularly strong year for female artists.

According to Apple Music, 39 songs on the Top Songs of 2024 are recorded by or feature female-identifying artists, marking the biggest year for women in the chart’s seven-year history.

And who locks up the greatest number of songs on the full list? Drake and U.S. country artist Morgan Wallen with eight each, followed by Taylor Swift with seven.
