Jules LeFevre appointed editor of Junkee
Australian youth publisher Junkee Media has promoted Jules LeFevre to become the editor of its flagship title, Junkee.
LeFevre has worked at the publication for five years and was appointed as music editor in 2018. She will now oversee the title’s coverage of pop culture, entertainment, news and politics, replacing outgoing editor Patrick Lenton.
Junkee Media has informed The Music Network that LeFevre will retain responsibility for Junkee’s music coverage in addition to taking on the expanded editorial role with the company.
Initially positioned as a staff writer with the company, LeFevre played a crucial role in the rebrand of FasterLouder as Music Junkee in April 2017, and also oversaw the closure of the company’s seminal dance music forum inthemix in November 2018.
LeFevre, who was named as a winner of The Music Network’s 30 Under 30 Awards in 2020, is also is a regular contributor to the ABC and acts as a judge for the APRA AMCOS and ARIA Awards.
LeFevre said that she was thrilled to assume the position of editor with Junkee and was looking forward to continuing to develop the website’s content strategy.
“I’m humbled and excited to be taking the reins as editor of Junkee, almost five years to the day after I started as a staff writer across FasterLouder and In The Mix,” LeFevre said.
“I’ve been lucky to work with some brilliant editors during my time here, and it’s an honour to now have the opportunity to shape the website. The Junkee team is wildly talented, and I’m eager to see what we can all achieve in the future.”
Junkee Media’s editorial director Rob Stott celebrated LeFevre’s impact as music editor, noting his excitement at the prospect of the expanded role.
“In her five years at Junkee, Jules has proven herself to have a deep understanding of our audience, a passion for innovative content, and a knack for unearthing great young writers who have contributed so much to Junkee’s voice,” Stott remarked.
“I’m eager to see what she can do in this expanded role at such an exciting time for Junkee.”
The announcement of LeFevre’s promotion arrives in the wake of Ooh Media’s announcement that it is planning to sell Junkee Media, five years after it purchased the publishing company in 2016.
