Jimmy Barnes breaks ARIA Charts record with new album
Australian rock legend Jimmy Barnes has broken yet another ARIA Chart record.
This time – it’s for his latest full length effort My Criminal Record, which is in fact his 16th No. 1 album.
The latest album features 13 tracks, and is Barnes’ first primarily original record to hit No. 1 since 1990’s Two Fires. In doing so, he’s broken records previously made by Madonna and U2 – which is a win not to be under-estimated for arguably Australia’s most successful performer.
In a statement, Barnes said:
“The songs on this album are really personal because they were inspired by the experiences I had writing and touring my memoirs. Having this music strike a chord with people therefore feels particularly good. I’m grateful to everyone who’s continued to support me over the years and I’m looking forward to screaming my thanks in person when I get back out on the road shortly.”
Mushroom Group chairman Michael Gudinski is chuffed with the Aussie legend’s latest broken record:
“There will never be another artist in Australia like Jimmy Barnes. It is simply an incredible achievement.” Gudinski continues “[My Criminal Record] is some of the best work of Jimmy’s illustrious career.”
Meanwhile, abroad in New Zealand, Barnes’ latest album has shot up to No. 3 in its first week of sales.
Bloodlines label co-founder Warren Costello chimed in:
“Jimmy and [manager] John Watson have an amazing hard-working team around them, as do we, but it’s Jimmy himself who sets the tone with this outstanding new album and his incomparable work ethic.”
This exciting news comes as Barnes and co get ready to embark on a huge Australian tour with Eskimo Joe and Jet, with an a Margaret Court Arena show already sold out months in advance.
