Jessica Mauboy leaves Sony Music to sign to Warner Music Australia

Warner Music Australia has signed multi-platinum and multi- award winning Australian artist Jessica Mauboy. The label has also announced brand new music from the ARIA winner, set for release in 2021.

It’s a big step for Mauboy, who signed to Sony Music Australia after she first gained national ubiquity in 2006 on the fourth season of Australian Idol. Mauboy was named became the runner-up and signed a recording contract with Sony Music Australia that year.

After 14 years with Sony, four studio albums – including her ARIA #1 album Hilda in 2019 – three soundtrack albums and one live album under her belt, Jessica Mauboy joins Warner’s growing roster.

Of the signing and new deal Jessica says:

“I have had an incredible journey with Sony, for which I will forever be grateful. It’s now time for the next chapter of my career and I’m very excited to be joining the team at Warner Music.  I have been spending my time in studio lately and looking forward to releasing new music in the new year”.

Niko Nordstrom, President of Warner Music Australasia says:

WMA A&R Manager, Marcus Thaine adds:

“We are so over the moon to be working with Jessica. She is an unparalleled artist in Australian history, and we can’t wait to bring her incredible creative vision to life in this new era of her career!”

Jessica Mauboy joins WMA at an exciting time for the label. ARIA CEO Dan Rosen is expected to take the reins as President of Warner Music Australasia in Sydney, with effect from 1st February, 2021. He will join Warner Music after serving almost a decade as CEO of ARIA and PPCA. Rosen will report into President, International, Recorded Music for Warner Music Group, Simon Robson.

Rosen steps into the slot left vacant by the departure of Niko Nordström, who is returning to his homeland, Finland, and will continue with Warner Music in a new role.
