Ivy League Records signs Melbourne act Shannen James

Mushroom Group’s Ivy League Records has announced the signing of Shannen James to a label deal.

Melbourne singer-songwriter James has dropped her first release through the label today (Thursday, February 20) in the form of new single ‘Collide’.

The tune premiered on triple j’s Good Nights on Wednesday night, and is the follow up to James’ debut single ‘Something In  The Water’.

She has also been announced as triple j’s Unearthed Featured Artist for next week.

Shannen James joins Ivy League’s stable or Aussie artists including The Teskey Brothers, Hatchie, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, The Rubens, A. Swayze & the Ghosts and more.

“Shannen is one of the most hardworking and talented songwriters I’ve ever met,” says Ivy League’s A&R manager Marihuzka Cornelius.

“When we signed her, she had just finished writing 30 killer songs in a period of only three weeks – out of which both ‘Something in the Water’ and ‘Collide’ came from.”

“Ivy League has always been a songwriter’s label and we feel that Shannen encapsulates everything that makes a songwriter great,” Cornelius adds.

“We are so excited to be working with an artist as talented as Shannen James.”

‘Collide’ was recorded with Dylan Nash (Dean Lewis, Angus & Julia Stone) in a home studio in Melbourne.

“Collide is a song about connecting with someone that is exactly that, the polar opposite to you in every way,” says James of the single.

“I think the beauty of it is that it can be related to all kinds of relationships we have in our lives.”

James heads out on her East Coast tour next week, taking in dates across Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
