Western Sydney duo Interupt crack half a billion streams in China

Western Sydney duo Interupt have reached a huge milestone, earning over half a billion streams in China across a pair of singles.

Interupt, consisting of Alex De Martin & Josip Mijatovic, have had ‘Power’ and ‘Power (In Your Soul)’, both released by TMRW Music, amass more than half a billion streams collectively in China alone, and now both singles are being licensed in the country by Liquid State.

In addition, the duo have released a Mandarin version of ‘Power (In Your Soul)’ thanks to the song going viral on Chinese TikTok.

TMRW Music’s head of A&R, Chris Fraser, said the song’s success in China proves the merit of organic growth.

“Over the last 18 months Interupt have shown the real ‘power’ of organic pick up,” Fraser said.

“The story of ‘Power’ just comes back to a catchy record finding its path and engaging with an audience in unexpected ways. The hard work’s really starting to pay off for the guys and the whole team couldn’t be more pumped to continue helping them to develop. Being in a position to build on that momentum with ‘Power (In Your Soul)’ and now seeing their sound attracting global attention is super exciting.”

Fraser also praised the work Liquid State have done, saying “Working with Victor, Matt and the Liquid State team to build on the huge buzz in China has been really brilliant. It’s not every day a bass house duo from Western Sydney blows up on Chinese TikTok and has their song re-done in Mandarin.

“The Liquid State guys have incredible job pulling it together and I can’t wait to see what we can achieve together with it.”

Liquid State’s managing director Victor Lee said the song still hasn’t reached its potential and still has room to grow.

Interupt created a sound that resonated with the Mainland China audience more than any other electronic single out there in 2021,” Lee said.

“By implementing a creative digital campaign focused on Douyin, we were able to amplify its potential and took the single to over 500M streams in 5 months. This new Chinese version with MIA.H gives us a powerful tool to continue building and expanding the reach of this bonafide hit.”
