Incident Tech inks deal with major music publishers for smart guitar
The company which created iPhone-powered smart guitar gTar, has inked landmark licensing deals with Sony/ATV Music Publishing and EMI Music Publishing.
After 18 months of negotiations, Incident Tech now have more than two million song tutorials within the gTar app, which sits inside a $US400 state-of-the-art guitar.
“With the addition of these amazing catalogs, we can fulfill that promise to our customers in 42 countries around the world,” says Incident Tech director of brand Josh Stansfield.
The gTar’s production stemmed from a design that put an iPhone into a guitar and allowed it to connect to lights on a fretboard, thus offering a simple way to learn any track on guitar in minutes. The design was then backed by a Kickstarter campaign before production began in Shenzhen, China. At this time 150 music apps are compatible with gTar as it produces sound through apps rather than pick ups. The gTar is also a drum machine, keyboard and synthesiser – it’s also MIDI-compatible and has an SDK.
Users can purchase the gTar from the Incident Tech website and tutorials from iTunes’ iOS app page can be purchased for 99c per song.
