Helen Matthews, Paul Sloan, to be inducted into WA HoF; craft winners revealed

WA’s first lady of jazz, Helen Matthews and promoter Paul Sloan will be inducted into the WA Hall of Fame on Thursday (November 5), music association WAM announced this morning.

Also unveiled today were the Craft winners of the WA Music Awards. They will be presented with their trophies along with the other winners yet to be announced on Thursday.

Matthews fronted acts like JT & The Jazzmen, A Slight Diversion, Nova Dreams and The Helen Matthews Quartet. She also presented the national ABC-TV show Helen Matthews – With A Little Help From Her Friends, and directed the Fremantle Jazz Festival and the Bunbury International Jazz Festival.

Sloan is Managing Director of Billions Australia booking agency and events producer Supersonic Enterprises. Billion’s 50 clients include Arcade Fire, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Bon Iver. Supersonic has produced thousands of shows, with 100 major outdoor events, including the 28,000 capacity Rock-It.

Best Guitarist: Lee Jones (Ruby Boots)

Best Bassist: John Brown (Mei Saraswati, Boom! Bap! Pow!)

Best Drummer/ Percussionist: Louis Rando (Malignant Monster, The Furor)

Best Keys/Synth Artist: Ron Pollard (Tangled Thoughts Of Leaving)
