Harry Styles producing One Direction-inspired sitcom for CBS
Harry Styles is executive-producing a sitcom loosely based on One Direction’s early days, for the CBS network.
It is expected to start screening Stateside in the northern autumn in prime time on Monday evenings – and it is a dead certainty that it will be screened in Australia as CBS bought Ten Network last November.
Titled Happy Together, it is about a married couple in their 30s with a young daughter who have their comfortable routines turned upside down when a 20-year old rock star moves in with them.
The story follows as he breaks up with a demanding high profile girlfriend.
In his early days, Styles moved in with his best friend, music video maker Ben Winston and his wife in London.
The girlfriend is presumably Taylor Swift.
Winston, who is also involved in Happy Together as executive producer, said that Styles moved into his attic “for a few weeks” until his own house in nearby Hampstead Heath was ready.
He ended up staying for 20 months because the house sale was delayed.
Winston told Rolling Stone: “Then he said, ‘I’m going to stay until Christmas, if you don’t mind.’ Then Christmas came, and …
“Those 20 months were when they went from being on a reality show, X Factor, to being the biggest-selling artists in the world.
“That period of time, he was living with us in the most mundane suburban situation. No one ever found out, really.
“Even when we went out for a meal, it’s such a sweet family neighbourhood, no one dreamed it was actually him.
“But he made our house a home. And when he moved out, we were gutted.”
Winston is now the executive producer for the Late Late Show with James Corden
Damon Wayans Jr and Amber Stevens West will play the married couple.
The rock star character will come to life via 24-year-old Australian actor Felix Mallard (pictured above) who played Ben Kirk in Neighbours.
