GYROstream launches free metadata tool Find My ISRC: Exclusive

GYROstream launches a free tool to help artists find their metadata, and manage their businesses better in the digital age.

Announced today, Find My ISRC is built to assist DIY artists, managers and labels to keep track of their recordings as they travel the worldwide web, TIO can exclusively reveal.

The brainchild of GYROstream CEO Andy Irvine, Find My ISRC is a cinch to use.

It’s a simple matter of entering a Spotify URI code or URL and, with one click, findmyisrc scans the net for the matching information.

ISRC, or the International Standard Recording Code, is a recording’s watermark, a traceable fingerprint without which royalties would disappear into the digital abyss.

Sure, metadata isn’t at the sexy-end of the music industry’s foodchain, Irvine admits. But metadata matters.

“In the modern digital music world, having consistent metadata to keep track of each royalty source is critical in ensuring artists get paid accurately. And having easy access to that metadata is critical,” Irvine tells TIO.

Without ISRC tracking, duplicate songs can find their way on Spotify connected to the wrong profile and artists can lose their existing streaming counts if moving distributors.

And not having the codes creates issues when registering songs with publishing companies, Irvine notes.

The new tool sits alongside GYROstream’s slew of distribution services which include artist promotions, PR, digital marketing, playlist pitching, vinyl production and sync.

Getting a handle on metadata is ground zero for pursuing a career in music in the 2020s. Not everyone gets it right, Irvine explains.

“What we found was that independent artists don’t have a single source of truth when it comes to their metadata,” he continues.

“Many artists use multiple distributors/labels/PROs to register their music and many artists we see have multiple ISRCs for the same recording, which can lead to all sorts of royalty issues. We wanted to create a way for artists to quickly extract their metadata so they can keep their ISRCs consistent for every service they use.”

Founded in 2018, GYROstream now represents over 3,000 artists across Australia and New Zealand for artist services and global digital distribution, including Tia Gostelow, Dustin Tebbutt, Shag Rock, JK-47, LEISURE, Bugs and Hope D.

Currently, the Australian-owned company delivers to upwards of 100 digital platforms, including Spotify, Apple, TikTok, Amazon and YouTube.
