Gudinski is “not the biggest Delta Goodrem fan” apparently

We all know industry magnate Michael Gudinski speaks his mind. The head of Mushroom Group and its many subsidiaries – including promoter giant Frontier Touring – will always give it to you straight. We just wish he hadn’t this time.

Chatting to 96FM Botica’s Bunch with Fred and Lisa about the Music From The Home Front concert and double CD, Gudinski revealed two things. 1. He’s not a fan of Australia’s beloved pop artist Delta Goodrem, and 2. he thought her performance for One World: Together At Home was lacklustre.

“Look, I’m not the biggest Delta Goodrem fan, I must admit,” Gudinski said. “I’m not big on celebrities, I’m being honest here.

“I thought the COVID performance of hers lacked lustre.” This comment could be in reference to the One World: Together At Home global broadcast event, where she covered ‘Together We Are One’.

Perhaps what pains us most about this sentiment is that Gudinski tapped Delta Goodrem for Music From the Home Front‘s broadcast back in April, where she performed and hosted alongside Christian O’Connell, David Campbell and Guy Sebastian.

When the 96FM hosts asked which were Gudinski’s favourite performances for the event, he listed Jimmy Barnes and Birds of Tokyo.

April’s Music From The Home Front concert was a three-hour-plus music extravaganza featuring 50-plus performers, including the likes of Kevin Parker, Tones And I, James Reyne and Mark Seymour, Courtney Barnett and DMA’S. The broadcast on Nine drew 815,000 metro viewers.

Speaking to TIO at the time, Gudinski said the virtual concert was locked and loaded in just 10 days. “Something this would take at least two months of planning,” Gudinski told TIO ahead of the show, “let alone the environment we’re living in.”
