Golden Robot announces ‘massive expansion,’ new signings

Golden Robot is rebooting with a raft of signings and label launches.

Based in Sydney, Golden Robot Global Entertainment is adding three more labels, which will sit alongside its existing heavy metal-focused Golden Robot Records and the country-leaning Social Family Records.

The newly-established Bread and Butter Records will sign and release indie and alt-rock acts, with, L.A-based Valley Queen the first signing to its roster.

GRGE’s new Riot Records will tap into punk and hardcore, with The Kids, Under The Influence and Shit Tinnies among its initial signings.

The fifth label under GRGE’s umbrella is Scratches Records, an R&B and hip-hop imprint set up with P.Smurf (aka Lorenz Prichard), the Sydney MC and Big Village Records co-founder and manager.

But wait, there’s more. A string of new signings come on board, including U.S.-based groups Empty Trail and Palm Ghosts; Pete Shoulder and Brian Tichy’s Silverthorne project; “American Idol” alum James Durbin’s The New Strange; guitarist Brandon Gibbs and ‘90s Australian-rockers Horsehead, whose catalogue will be thrust back into the spotlight with a special box-set release later this year.

This dizzying expansion, explains GRGE founder and president Mark Alexander-Erber, will see the company extend its reach around the globe and into most of the popular genres. “It’s been a perfect journey and we have only just started,” the former hotel empire chief enthuses in a statement, issued Tuesday.

Launched in 2015, the independent music company now boasts international offices in Los Angeles, New York, Auckland, Hamburg, Tokyo and London.

“After only four years of existence,” adds Derek Shulman, president worldwide expansion, “Mark, myself and the whole of the GRR team are absolutely committed to being one of the most successful artist friendly independent music companies in the world. It is a very exciting time for us all.”

Skid Row

Golden Robot hasn’t been sat idle of late. The company signed celebrated axe-men John Sykes and Guns ‘N Roses’ Gilby Clarke earlier this year, plus King’s X, newcomers Trope and heavyweight veterans Skid Row, a coup that caught the attention of a slew of hard rock sites.

The bullish company promises more signings, releases and announcements in the year ahead. Says Alexander-Erber, “This is the story of an Aussie based international label taking on the big boys around the world.”
