Genesis Owusu Leads 2023 ARIA Awards Nominations

With seven chances, Genesis Owusu leads the pack heading into the 2023 ARIA Awards.

The Ghana-born, Canberra-raised funkmaster has swept all awards before him in recent years, and it would appear he’s on a similar mission with the ARIAs; his second album Struggler bags nominations for album of the year, best solo artist, best independent release and more.

Close behind, with six nominations apiece, is Dom Dolla, G Flip and Troye Sivan, while the likes of Budjerah and DMA’S (five nominations); King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Kylie Minogue and The Teskey Brothers (four) are in the hunt for multiple pointy trophies.

As previously reported, Jet will swoop in for induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame.

“The countdown to this year’s ARIA Awards is officially on, and we’re absolutely thrilled to congratulate this year’s nominees, who represent the best of the best in Australia across a really wide range of artists from various genres and communities,” comments ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd, who notes over 60% of this year’s nominees come from independent labels.

Set for Nov. 15, the 2023 ARIA will be held for the second consecutive year at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on Gadigal land.

This year’s ceremony will premiere live on Stan at 5pm AEDT for the first time, with the free-to-air commercial feed following on Nine Network from 7.30 AEDT, and streamed globally on YouTube, through a years-long partnership.

YouTube will once again live stream the red carpet from 1.30pm AEDT.

The 2022 ceremony, organisers say, clocked more than 1.7 million views on YouTube.

“Every year these awards grow and showcase the incredible home-grown talent found in this country,” comments NSW Minister for the Arts, Minister for Music and the Night-time Economy and Minister for Jobs and Tourism, John Graham.

“We are determined to bring music back across NSW, and I want to thank ARIA for the leadership they have shown in supporting the music industry.”

With today’s nominations announcement (Sept. 21), the virtual doors open for the second round of ARIAs voting.

For the first time, the ARIA Voting Academy is asked to return and vote in an additional phase, now selecting first, second and third preferences from the list of final nominees.
