Gen Fricker issues first statement following alleged on-air assault

triple j host Gen Fricker has issued her first statement since an alleged on-air assault that occurred earlier this month.

Just a few weeks ago, it was revealed that triple j host Gen Fricker had been assaulted while on air. According to the ABC, a 31-year-old man unlawfully entered the broadcaster’s Ultimo offices by tailgating an employee on September 5th.

After forcing his way into the studio, the man allegedly grabbed and kissed Gen Fricker, who was on air at the time. The man soon left the premises, but was found by police a number of days later.

Court documents revealed that the man had been stalking Fricker for quite some time “with the intention of causing her physical or mental harm”, with the case being adjourned while he underwent a mental health assessment.

While Gen Fricker understandably did not issue a statement in the immediate aftermath of the event, the radio host and comedian took to Instagram last night to thank her close supporters for all their help during this difficult time.

“Just a little note to say thank you to everyone who’s reached out over the past few weeks, and to apologise if I haven’t responded directly,” she wrote.

“Please know I see it and I appreciate it. Right now I feel like I’m relearning how to be in the world and it’s an excruciatingly slow process but I’m trying to do the things I can. I’m not sure about the future, but right now, I am grateful and ok.”

As it stands, Gen Fricker has not been back on air since the incident, and while fans are understandably keen to hear her voice on air, that’s undoubtedly the end goal of a very long healing process at the current time. We wish Gen all the best during this difficult period.
