Flume is the latest musician added to APRA AMCOS’ 1,000,000,000 List
The world-beating Flume has just added another accolade to his already-stacked resumé, becoming the latest addition to APRA AMCOS’ 1,000,000,000 List.
Earlier this year, APRA AMCOS ushered in a new list which truly honours the monumental achievements undertaken by our homegrown musicians with The 1,000,000,000 List.
Designed to recognise the Aussie artists who have managed to rack up a billion (yes, billion) streams across the likes of Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Vevo, Amazon, Google Play and more, the list kicked off in June with Nat Dunn, whose work as a co-writer on Marshmello & Anne-Marie’s hit ‘Friends’ was truly appreciated by music fans the world over.
Dunn soon found company though, with Dean Lewis joining the list thanks to the success of his chart-topping hit ‘Be Alright’, and leaving everyone wondering who might be the next artist to join this exclusive club.
Now, we’ve found our answer, with Flume (best known to his parents as Harley Streten) becoming the third member of the 1,000,000,000 List thanks to the success of his track ‘Never Be Like You’.
The first single from Flume’s second album, Skin, ‘Never Be Like You’ was – to put it lightly – a major success.
Featuring vocals from Canadian singer Kai, the track topped the ARIA singles chart, hitting #1 in the 2016 Hottest 100, receiving a Grammy nomination, and was awarded both the Dance Work of the Year and Most Performed Australian Work at the 2017 APRA Music Awards.

“Flume’s songwriting and production has had a huge influence on how music sounds, and his success has opened the doors for his fellow Australian music creators,” explained APRA AMCOS CEO Dean Ormston.
“Through his songs, he has connected to fans all over the world and we congratulate Harley on achieving a position on The 1,000,000,000 List.”
“I’m honoured to have found out the song hit one billion streams a few weeks ago,” said Flume during his acceptance of the award. “We’re lucky to have such a supportive local industry and it’s so great seeing Australian songs continue to do well overseas.”
“‘Never Be Like You’ was one of the defining songs to crossover electronic music into the mainstream,” added Future Classic Founder/CEO Nathan McLay.
“It marked a progression from dance music that preceded it, a bolt from the blue marrying great melody and songwriting with unique, forward thinking production to create a sublime, emotionally resonant and uplifting anthem.”
Flume recently wrapped up a run around the country with the Listen Out festival, while his latest single, ‘Rushing Back’, recently cracked the top 20 on the ARIA charts over the weekend.
