First 30 unveiled for Australian Music Week: “These artists are all ready and raring to go”
Australian Music Week, which is taking over Sydney’s Cronulla Beach from November 7—9, has this morning unveiled its first 30 artists.
They range from homegrown grassroots talents as alt-country Tom Forsyth and electro-pop duo Chymes to award winners from abroad like Canada’s Hawksley Workman to female artist of the year trophy holders Christie Lamb to new Swiss talent Veronica Fusaro.
There is also 19-year-old Americana purveyor James Van Cooper, award-winning WA songwriter and pop artist Sydnee Carter, Gold Coast Music Awards winner, Ella Fence, folk-rock duo Little Georgia and the world latin vibes merchants Amaru Tribe.
Noting the wide range of genres on offer, AMW director Geoff Trio said today’s announcement “shows the strength of new Australian talent emerging.”
He added, “After listening to hundreds of hours of music, I’m really excited about the quality and diversity of acts Australian Music Week will be showcasing this year.
“I even discovered my own new favourite artist in the process!
“These artists are all ready and raring to go. The artistry is there. Their live performances are there. I have no doubt 2018 will see our biggest and best showcasing results yet.”
AMW is set for more than 150 live performances, three days of industry panels and masterclass workshops, as well as Australia’s only dedicated music film festival on November 10 & 11.
Past editions have seen AMW showcasing artists pick up international tours, major festival placements, record and distribution deals, international touring and more showcasing opportunities.
Artist showcase applications have been extended to September 7 at www.australianmusicweek.com.
301 Studios general manager, Ron Haryanto observed “We’ve watched Australian Music Week evolve into an essential conference for independent artists.
“What this conference does so well is enable cross sections of the industry to showcase, connect and collaborate with each other on a very real and personal level.”
Today’s announcement follows the first round of speakers and industry delegates revealed last month.
They included Canadian musician health and wellness coach, Mike Schwartz, music tech expert Hazel Savage, Deena Lynch of Amplifire Music (Confidence Man, The Jungle Giants) and Collarts’ head of entertainment management, Chrissie Vincent.
Tickets are on sale now via Oztix with prices ranging from $25 for a one night live music pass to $99 for a full early-bird conference pass.
