Finalists announced for Queensland Music Awards
Image: Last Dinosaurs are up for the Best Music Video QMA PRESS RELEASE: The 2016 Queensland Music Awards is shaping up to be one of the most memorable nights of this year’s music calendar, with QMusic today announcing a stellar list of finalists and live performers. Over fifty judges from across the country have selected an impressive list of finalists across the various categories, including Eves The Behavior, Velociraptor, Violent Soho, Avaberée, Caligula’s Horse, Sahara Beck and many more (full list below). This year’s QMAs will be hosted by triple j’s Gen Fricker and showcase performances from indie-psychedelic supergroup The Belligerents, rising Sunshine Coast songwriter Ayla, the fast-paced rhymes of 7-piece live hip hop actAstro Travellers, the soulful beats of Standby Empire plus more to be announced. Another highlight of the night will be the bestowment of Arts Queensland’s $10,000 Billy Thorpe Scholarship to an emerging Queensland based contemporary musician or band. The scholarship is an initiative of the Queensland Government to support new local talent. The four finalists in the running for this prestigious award are Babaganouj, FOREVR, Leanne Tennant and Luke Peacock. Winners across the 24 QMA categories will be announced at the 2016 event, which for the second year running returns to the magnificent Brisbane Powerhouse on March 21. Further accolades for Highest Selling Single, Highest Selling Album and an Export Achievement Award, celebrating Queensland acts taking their music to the world, will also be presented on the night. Queensland music fans will also be given the chance to discover some of the State’s most promising songwriters and have their say in the Bank of Queensland People’s Choice Awards by voting for their favourite emerging acts in the Most Promising Female, Most Promising Male and Most Promising Songwriting Team categories, winners of which all receive cash prizes – nominees will be announced on February 22.
