Fat As Butter axed for 2014
For the first time in seven years, Newcastle’s Fat As Butter Festival has been cancelled.
The festival’s publicity agency Shake Appeal, which rebranded from Reckoning Entertainment last July, says Fat As Butter has been unable to secure a strong enough line-up for the October event.
“Despite six months of scouring the world we just haven’t been able to land a line-up that we reckon you guys would come and play with,” the statement reads.
While the last two Fat As Butter festivals have been unanimous success with 11,000 festival-goers attending in 2012 and Mickey Avalon, Booka Shade and Gym Class Heroes headlining the 2013 event, 2011’s event did bring a heavy blow to organisers when US rapper Flo Rida failed to turn up. Mothership Music took Flo Rida to court for the no-show, serving him via social media.
Because of the interesting method of service, Flo Rida won his appeal and evaded the $400,000 lawsuit plus a $20,000 legal fee. In August last year, its past promoter Mothership Music entered voluntary liquidation. The promoter fell victim to a debt of almost $200,000 to the ATO following the $400,000 lawsuit loss.
The good news is organisers have full intention of making a comeback in 2015.

Dear FABSTERS,
Brace yourselves for some rotten news.
Unfortunately there’ll be no 2014 edition of Fat As Butter – major BUMMER.
Despite 6 months of scouring the world we just haven’t been able to land a line up that we reckon you guys would come and play with.
We’re obviously all disappointed that for the first time in 7 years we wont be partying on the Foreshore.
It was a decision we agonised over, but sometimes the fickle gods of the almighty line up just don’t co operate!
We’ll miss you all this year, but we’ll definitely be back in 2015 with a smashing show.
Stay tuned in the meantime – we might just have something else to fill the musical void.
Love,
FAB Headquaters.
