Facebook looks to create original audio content

Facebook has hired a handful of staff from the California-based audio production company which produced tracks for the Guitar Hero, Rock Band and Dance Dance Revolution game series’.

WaveGroup Sound announced the news this morning via Facebook, stating “the WaveGroup team is now the official in house Sound Design team at Facebook.”

While Facebook confirmed to VentureBeat that the company did not acquire WaveGroup, WaveGroup’s LinkedIn page has been updated with a description written in past tense.

WaveGroup produced app sounds for Facebook’s Messenger, SlingShot and Instagram Bolt apps and most recently created the music for the Star Wars iOS game Star Wars: Commander.

The company specialises in re-recordings of existing songs to make them pliable for its clients to remix. According to Techcrunch, Facebook may have WaveGroup’s team build tools to let users do interesting things with their content, similar to what Facebook did with its “Look Back” videos to celebrate its 10th anniversary.
