Aussie Evan Klar first signing to new German label Monchique
Melbourne-based producer Evan Klar has been announced as the inaugural signing on new German label Monchique.
The new label, a division of Grönland Records, has been set up by producer Tobias Kuhn, label manager Lenz Hein and musician/actor Herbert Grunermeyer.
Kuhn was also the curator for Gold Coast SongHubs, which is where he and Klar first met. Just months later, Klar is the first signing on Monchique.
“SongHubs brings together songwriters and producers to create new music and to foster new connections between emerging artists and established internationals that otherwise might not have happened,” said Milly Petriella of APRA AMCOS.
“Evan signing to Monchique just months after meeting and collaborating with Tobias Kuhn, the curator at Gold Coast SongHubs, is a phenomenal outcome, and a testament to Evan’s talent and incredible potential.”
Klar releases his latest single today ‘I Do’, a track that was co-written with Kuhn (who also co-produced Milky Chance album Blossom). The track premiered on triple j’s Good Nights.
“’I Do’ was written last year about a fictional character who breaks free from her past and moves on in search of a better life.” said Klar.
“Very recently the song has become relevant to me and helped me through a rough patch. I hope it can do the same for others in this tough time.”
Grönland’s Lenz Hein said it was an easy decision to get Klar on the new Monchique label after hearing the track for the first time.
“When we first heard ‘I Do’ we were hooked right away. The style of the song is unique, laid back, yet very energetic at the same time,” he said.
“Evan is an inspiring artist with a clear artistic vision that we’re looking forward to realising with him. We’re happy and proud to welcome Evan as the 1st signing of our label Monchique.”
Evan Klar will be worth keeping an eye on, with an EP touted to be released later in 2020.
