EMC 2015 Announces Carl Cox, New Venue & More
PRESS RELEASE:
The Electronic Music Conference (EMC) has announced house and techno music pioneer Carl Cox as the first keynote speaker for the 2015 edition of Asia-Pacific’s leading electronic music industry event.
Legends don't come much bigger than Carl Cox. Techno's favourite star has been one of the most respected names in dance music for the last 25 years, from his early days as a DJ in the mid-80s to his globe-trotting status as an electronic statesman in 2015. Cox has been a resident at Space Ibiza for over a decade, took out the Number 1 spot in the first ranked DJ Mag Top 100 poll and handles an eight-hour set like no other. With Carl's 'Global' radio show now reaching 17 million weekly listeners worldwide, he's also one of the most important music broadcasters on the planet.
This year’s conference will be held on Tuesday December 1 and Wednesday December 2 throughout the Ivy complex, one of Sydney’s premier entertainment venues and the new home for EMC.
EMC has seen significant growth since it first launched in 2012 and has big plans for 2015. For the first time, EMC will be offering tiered delegate pass options, with the introduction of EMC Pro and EMC Academy passes.
· EMC Pro passes start from $199, with a limited release of advance early-bird tickets on sale from today. EMC Pro will give delegates full access to all EMC keynotes, masterclasses, panels, networking events and parties.
· The new EMC Academy pass starts from $199 and has been created for aspiring artists, managers, promoters and others wanting to access the EMC Masterclass program only. In addition to artist-led masterclass production sessions, this year’s EMC Masterclass program will also include tailored interviews and panel discussions focusing on the needs and interests of emerging artists and industry members.
“EMC is more than an industry conference,” said founder Neil Ackland, “it’s also a forum for new and emerging artists and industry members to make connections and gain valuable insights into the electronic music industry. We anticipate that the EMC Academy ticket will make the conference more accessible to these people and help grow our industry here in Australia.”
EMCPlay, a program of public showcase events, that in 2014 featured over 120 Australia’s top emerging and established artists playing in various Kings Cross venues over two nights, returns in 2015 as a even bigger one night event with applications and venue details to be announced.
Electronic music has experienced huge worldwide growth over the past three years. According to a 2015 business report by IMS, the global industry has experienced 12% growth year on year to its current valuation of $6.9 billion per annum, with Asia-Pacific accounting for $1billion of the overall value. Australia specifically is recognised as a market leader in the electronic music industry, with a number of success stories over the past few years including:
· Earlier this year Australian electronic music artists dominated the world’s hottest festival, Coachella with Alison Wonderland, EMC alumni What So Not and Peking Duk and 2014 EMCPlay artist SAFIA all performing to audiences in the tens of thousands.
· In April this year, Sydney native Alison Wonderland’s first album release debuted at #1 on the US Billboard Electronic Music Chart.
· Half of the Top 10 of 2014’s Triple J’s Hottest were electronic music artists.
· Australian duo Nervo were the only all-female act to rank in the 2014 DJ Mag Top 100 list
· In 2013 electronic music festival Stereosonic, which is credited as being Australia’s biggest music festival (of any genre) and Asia-Pacific’s largest electronic music festival was purchased by global events conglomerate SFX Entertainment for a reported $75million.
“We have seen a number of Australian electronic music artists dominating internationally over the past few years” Jane Slingo, EMC’s Conference Programmer said.
“One of our key focuses for EMC is connecting our emerging and export-ready talent with potential partners in leading and fast growing international markets for electronic music such as Asia and North America. With EMC supporting Australian artists and managers in this way, we expect to see the pattern of international success for Australian artists continue in the coming years.”
Following a successful launch in 2014, EMC will again host its Incoming Visitors Program in partnership with Australia Council for the Arts. Last year’s program saw EMC invited ten leading international bookings agents, promoters and A&Rs in electronic music to the event for the purpose of connecting them with local artists and managers, resulting in a number of signings, export and touring opportunities for many Australian artists in the markets of North America and Asia. This year, EMC will host a new group of talent buyers from various developed and fast emerging markets in Asia as well as North America, Europe and the United Kingdom.
EMC is also pleased to announce that the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW, is returning as a key strategic partner of the event with the aim of helping to grow the event, and attracting interstate and international visitors and creative professionals to NSW.
EMC is on sale today via Eventbrite, with a special offer of 50 advance early bird EMC Pro passes available for just $199 until July 6 or until sold out.
EMC is a part of Sydney’s ARIA Week and has the full support of Destination NSW, the Australia Council for the Arts and Sounds Australia.
