Ed Sheeran cracks 42 million monthly Spotify listeners
Not only is Ed Sheeran holding down both top spots in the singles chart, he’s also blown past Drake, The Chainsmokers and The Weeknd as the most popular artist on Spotify by global monthly listeners.
Between the record-smashing singles Shape Of You and Castle On The Hill and his high-performing established releases, Sheeran has cracked 42.18 million monthly listeners on the platform – well above Chainsmokers’ second-place figure of 37.8 million monthly listeners, and a strong chance to be the highest overall monthly listener count in Spotify’s history.
Sheeran’s chart dominance across worldwide and Australian streaming is clear, with the distinctive cover art dotted all over this week’s TMN Australian Singles Report. Castle On The Hill tops the Hot 100, while Shape Of You is sticking at the top of the four global music market charts and eight of the 12 Australian and international digital charts.
After the dual release of the singles on January 6, Sheeran broke a number of Spotify records, including the biggest first week for a new track and biggest week for a single track ever, with over 52 million plays in seven days for Shape Of You.
