Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, Kendrick Lamar, Imagine Dragons, multi-winners at Billboard Music Awards
Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, Kendrick Lamar, Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee, Imagine Dragons and Taylor Swift were among the major winners at the Billboard Music Awards.
They were held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Kelly Clarkson hosted the night and sang her way through a medley of the year’s best-selling songs.
Organisers asked her to call for a minute’s silence for victims of the school shooting in Santa Fe.
“I’m so sick of moments of silence, it’s not working, obviously,” she said emotionally.
“Why don’t we do a moment of action? Why don’t we do a moment of change?”
The violent deaths of young people resurged, with Ariana Grande’s ‘No Tears Left to Cry’ and Shawn Mendes & Khalid’s duet ‘Youth’.
The Chainsmokers and Halsey remembered Avicii and called for support for those struggling with mental health.
Christina Aguilera and Demi Lovato debuted their new female self-empowerment duet, ‘Fall in Line’
Janet Jackson, who picked up her Icon trophy after a medley of her hits, celebrated the achievements of the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements:
“For all our challenges, we live at a glorious moment in history,” she stated.
