Ecca Vandal has taken out the $30,000 Levi’s® Music Prize for 2019.

The latest round of the prize judging saw the Melbourne awarded the top prize, following a prestigious list of previous winners including The Teskey Brothers, Amyl & The Sniffers, Stella Donnelly, Alex Lahey, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Hatchie and Emerson Snowe.

“Like so many amazing Australian artists, my aim is to create honest, forward-thinking music that can be shared with the world,” she tells TMN.

“Receiving the Levi’s/Q Music Award allows me to do just that, in this next phase of my artist journey.

Vandal burst onto the scene after a standout showcase at BIGSOUND 2016 and released her eponymous debut album through Dew Process in 2017.

She hopes to use the prize money to complete her forthcoming sophomore record.

“It gives me the opportunity to finish my second album and to get back on the road to promote it.

“I am humbled to receive this award and thankful to everyone who made it possible.”

The Levi’s Music Prize is now in its third year.

The judging panel for the award included Mary Ramos, (Saturday Music, Inc.), Rachel Cragg, (Director of A&R and Management at Nettwerk Music Group), Mollie Lehman, (Atlantic Records A&R) and Paul Adam (New Community Management).

The winner of the next round will be announced on Friday 6 September at BIGSOUND 2019 with 147 showcasing artists eligible for Round 1 2019/20 of the prestigious $30,000 prize.
