Downtown Music Publishing signs Australian indie-pop artist Eliott [EXCLUSIVE]
Following a performance at last year’s BIGSOUND, and a bunch of sold-out headline shows, Eliott (AKA Charlotte Gemmill) has signed to global and growing publisher Downtown Music Publishing, TIO can exclusively reveal.
The deal follows Downtown Music Publishing’s signing of Sydney singer-songwriter Evie Irie.
The Australian indie-pop singer-songwriter – who gained her moniker from an affectionate anagram of her nickname Lottie – has been ‘one to watch’ since before her recent East Coast Headline tour and shows supporting Matt Corby. The Cobram, Victoria local also wowed audiences during her shows with Dean Lewis earlier this year.
Eliott said of the signing:
“So excited to be teaming up with Downtown music alongside so many talented artists and such a passionate team,” she said. “I write music because it’s what I love to do, so thank you so much for helping my voice be heard on a larger scale.”
Eliott’s label deal with Island Records globally has seen her feature on Kite String Tangle’s track ‘Killing Time’ and Lucian Blomkamp’s ‘Doing This For You’, and her previous single ‘Shaking My Hips’ gain full rotation on triple j,
Eliott’s 2018 debut EP Bold Enough, was hailed as one of the most exciting and honest releases to come from a local emerging act last year. Singles like ‘Over & Over,’ ‘Calling’ and her debut breakout ‘Figure It Out’ candidly narrated what it was like trying to find one’s place in the world while dealing with the inner turmoil of growing up.

Earlier this week Eliott released her most vulnerable and honest video to date. The clip was for ‘Find A Way’, her single which was co-produced by fellow homegrown talent Jack Grace and Dylan Nash.
Released Wednesday (Aug. 7), the clip for ‘Find A Way’ details the anxiety and pressure she placed on herself when taking off on her first ever solo tour. But also delves into the ways her music has healed others.
“It’s humbling to know that my experiences, my pain, my happiness, can affect someone else in ways I’ll never truly understand,” Eliott writes in the clip.

As a songwriter Eliott is also making serious waves, having co-wrote Montaigne’s anthemic new single, ‘Ready’.
Rachel Kelly, Creative Director & Head of Sync, Downtown, Australia & New Zealand said:
“Don’t be deceived by her dimples, Charlotte Gemmill is a powerhouse — a gifted storyteller with relatable lyrics that go straight to the heart,” she said. “I’m thrilled that Charlotte has chosen Downtown to join her creative team, alongside the good people at Good Manners and Island Records. She is phenomenal and the best is yet to come.”
Downtown Music Publishing expanded into Australia in February last year with the launch of a Sydney office, led by Rachel Kelly. Kelly announced her first local DMP colleague in June this year; Stef Patch joined the independent music publisher as sync manager, Australia & New Zealand.
