Double J Pick of the Week – The Cactus Channel
The Cactus Channel (ft. Chet Faker)
Kill The Doubt
(HopeStreet)
One of Australia's biggest artists teams up with one of Melbourne's best bands in Kill The Doubt. The obvious point is that Chet Faker's enormous profile will shine a light on the brilliant, cinematic funk of The Cactus Channel, and hopefully that becomes the case.
More importantly, this musical connection really works. Faker's relaxed, soulful croon sits atop the deep groove of the band just as well as it does his own, more electronic steeped productions. Faker's melody isn't an immediate earworm, but its cool delivery contributes to making this an addictive slow burner. The Cactus Channel's guitar and bass groove is tight, the beat is snappy and the cascading horns that come over the top of it all are tasteful.
Even if you don't like Chet Faker, or you don't know who The Cactus Channel are, you need to give Kill The Doubta chance. It's worth it.
